The other evening "Salient," having shaken the moths (and moth balls) from the evening apparel braved the elements and staggered through a half-gale to the St. Frances hall the venue of the Law Ball. After a few pleasantries with Mr. Sullivan through the embrasure in the wall that passed under the name of a ticket-box we obtained a ticket and were then allowed to pass to higher things by Mr. Christensen and the Commissionaire. Although our clock showed 9 p.m the total attendance at that at that stage consisted of the Chief Justice, Lady Myers, Professor and Mrs. Williams and various apprehensive committee members.

However the crowds eventually and roll up and things generally were much brighter. When the orchestra (in legal attire) deserted the platform and the scales of Justice for a brighter and better life in the centre of the floor things really began to move. Visits backstage seemed to be increasingly popular and when at 2 a.m Mr. Agar led a spirited haka, "Salient" went so far as to lay aside the dignity of the Press and lent a hand in the good work. By universal consent the gathering then adjourned sine die.

The attendance was rather disappointing and "Salient" feels that the legal profession must be astonishingly apathetic in this city as very few of the older members of the profession were present. They missed a bright evening.
