Answers To Correspondents.

J.B.: You have an idea of verse writing, but your rhymes and grammar are shaky in some lines...G.D.H.: A good line here and there, but better send it to "Our Animal Friends"... "E. Flaxstick": "To Hilda" is much below your first effort; let us have more in the original style...H.S.N.: Off the main track...T.F. Even Harry Quail must take off his hat to you:

Though it had been raining heavily,
And the mud and slush, O Lor!
Your rifle it was dirty,
You had that to answer for.

Our dinner that day was a beauty,
And one I shall never forget,
Some bully and bread and smoked tea,
Which the cook said was spoiled by the wet.

H.A.C. Unsuitable...S.W.A.: Ditto... A.S.C. and "Indian Two Pipper": Wouldn't pass censor...R.S.J.: Verse is too personal. Thanks for good wishes...J.T.: Shade of Bobby Burns...C.O.M.: Finish..."Sarg": We read the "Barrage" at a sitting, and it left us breath less...A.G.: Did you copy that sweet little Edenish scene-from a cave dweller's gallery?... "Fair Play": According to your own showing, the boxer you mention is a welter-weight, whereas the contest we reported was for the light-weight championship...C. I. W.: Editors are editors for the purpose of editing. No "drastic alterations," however, were made in your copy, only a few words or phrases were changed, as required, in our humble opinion...J.R.C.: Near the mark. G.T.C.: Thanks for letter; will be glad to receive contributions..."Bunny": Pretty, but very improbable...C.F.D.R.: Glad the "K.O.C." helped you to trace your pal...J.C.D. Copies of the photograph you mention cannot be obtained...J.D.: Doesn't come within coo-ee of poetry...L.V.K.: Nothing doing. Your copy is not what we require... A.O.C.: Some good lines, but—you "mustn't talk like this".. L/C. "D. Funny": No good... "Larry B": We sympathise with you, but cannot make your woes public...Sig. T. W. Souter: Neither of the photographs is suitable for reproduction..F.L.K.: Too weak... Sig. W. Seddon: Would like to see more of your sketches... "Buster": We prefer your prose... "Godfrey Gaunt": May use some of your contribs, next month... "Logs": One stanza, to encourage you:

Now take last night for instance,
I heard our Corporal shout,
"Hurry up and bring a candle,
There's a viper in my dug-out."

"Zulu": Will use your par. in next issue... Ted O'R.: Let use have some verse...Tpr. H. Spence: Further contributions would be acceptable... "Tralas": Just the thing, but arrived too late to have block made from the sketch. Glad to hear from you again. 'Inquirer": "The Kia Ora Coo-ee" may be obtained from Mr. P. Anquetil, H'qrs.
