BLACKE, Annie Taylor

A Dunedin contemporary of Frances Hodgkins: listed as Dunedin artist 1896–99, Wise's. Exhibited with OAS 1893–98, yet was accepted by the Paris Salon in 1896. Exhibited a large canvas in Otago Industrial Ex 1898. Was in London at least by 1901 when she exhibited flowers and landscapes, probably oils, with the New Zealand painter and dealer John Baillie in his gallery at Bayswater. Returned to New Zealand in 1904, exhibited with CSA 1905, but went back to England 1908, is listed again as Dunedin artist 1911–14 but finally returned to England and is said to have married an English clergyman.
