WAYMOUTH, John 1820–1892
Born Wales, took active part in Temperance and social movements before arriving Auckland in William Watson 1859. Was employed page 250 by solicitor's firm: 1863 Under Secretary for Defence. After Waikato war ended he and his son set up as accountants. Was a member of the Auckland City Council, secretary of the regatta club, commodore of the Auckland Yacht Club. Designed many New Zealand yachts. Waymouth was one of those who planned the Society of Artists Auckland in 1869; did not exhibit with them until 1875.
