SMITH, R. F.

Founder of the Dunedin firm of art dealers, Smith and Smith. Painted many portraits, often utilising his old canvases for new portraits. His brother Harry was known as a singer. R. F. Smith exhibited OAS 1876–77 and 1891–1906. His son Leslie Smith, who exhibited with OAS 1906, went to Paris to study at the Julian Academy and was later a constant exhibitor at the Paris Salon. He fought in the French army and died in Morocco.
