SCOTT, John Halliday 1851–1914
Dunedin watercolourist, his painting of the Moeraki boulders well known. Born and educated Edinburgh. 1877 appointed Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Otago. Was a friend of the painter W. M. Hodgkins and one of the leading figures in the Dunedin art world for many years. Exhibited with OAS from 1878, was secretary of the Society from 1884 until his death; NZ and South Seas Ex Dunedin 1889–90. Work included Centennial Ex Wtn 1940. Represented: DPAG, Hocken, Waikato Art Museum.
