A trained architect from Melbourne, where he had gained prizes in architectural competitions. Came Dunedin after discovery of gold in Otago in 1861. 1862 set up in Dunedin as architect, at first with William Mason and 1863 on his own. Among the buildings he designed were the Otago Museum and the Bank of Otago. 1865 elected to Dunedin Council. Exhibited: OAS 1886–87. Drawings of Dunedin in the 1870s and a watercolour are in the Hocken.
