Important Judgments: Delivered in the Compensation Court and Native Land Court. 1866–1879.

1820

1820.

About the year 1820 we find a large party of Ngatipaoa living at Mauinaina; Te Taou at Oneonenui (Kaipara), and others of them at Onehunga; and Ngaoho at Mangere and Okahu, the former being their pa or head-quarters. I think the partial cultivation by some members of Ngatipaoa on or adjoining the Okahu estate still con-page 69tinued, but I am very doubtful on this point. They owned the land up to the college lake, and a trespass over the boundaries would be regarded with no jealousy, but rather as a flattering testimony of confidence and good feeling.
