No. 239, 1902. —Petition of Hoone Mokena and 15 Others.
Petitioners allege that certain settlers in Mangakahia district have impounded stock belonging to Natives which had wandered on to unfenced land leased by the said settlers, and they pray that some consideration may be shown to them, and that the settlers be compelled to protect their land by fencing.
I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government, with a view to bringing the case under the notice of the Hon. the Native Minister as early as possible.
