Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1901.

No. 392, 1900.—Petition of Haora Tareranui and 9 Others

No. 392, 1900.—Petition of Haora Tareranui and 9 Others.

Petitioners allege that when the Moehau Block was ceded to the Crown it was agreed that they should have a reserve of 1,856 acres set aside for them; they now find that this reserve (Moehau No. 1G, or Waiaro) contains 500 acres short of the area agreed upon, and they pray for restitution of the land, and compensation for the kauri timber taken therefrom, and for other losses.

I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration.

6th August, 1901.
