Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1901.

[No. 783.—Petition of Wirihana Hunia.]

No. 783.—Petition of Wirihana Hunia.

Petitioner objects to part of Horowhenua No. 11 being included in Horowhenua No. 9, and prays that subsections (a) and (b) of clause 8 of "The Horowhenua Block Act, 1896," may be rendered void and of no effect.

I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this matter should be referred to the Government for inquiry and consideration, and if after such inquiry it be found that a mistake has been made with regard to the ownership of the land in question the Government should bring in remedial legislation next session; but, on the other hand, if it is found no mistake has occurred such steps should be taken as will finally dismiss the claim.
