No. 355, 1897.—Petition of Merehira Paerau.

Petitioner alleges that a reserve of 1,000 acres, called Pukereretu, near Feilding, should have been set aside for herself and younger sister from the sale of the Rangitikei-Manawatu lands, and prays for inquiry and relief.

I am directed to report that there is evidence that the petitioner applied to the Commissioner for this reserve, but her application was not given effect to. In the opinion of this Committee the Government should favourably consider the matter by holding an inquiry.

No. 355, 1897.—Pitihana a Merehira Paerau.

E ki ana te kai-pitihana tera tetahi whenua, kotahi mano eka te nui, ko Pukereretu te ingoa, e tata ana ki Whiringi (Feilding), i te wa i hokona ai nga whenua o Rangitikei-Manawatu, i kiia ka rahuitia hei whenua mo raua ko tona teina, a e inoi ana ia kia uiuia taua mea a kia whakaorangia tona mate.

Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, kua kitea etahi korero hei whakaatu i tono ano te kaipitihana ki te Komihana kia hoatu mona taua rahui, engari kaore i whakatutukitia taua tono. Ki te whakaaro o te nei Komiti me pai te whiriwhiri a te Kawanatanga i tenei tono, a me whakahau kia tu he whakawa-uiui.
