Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1898.

[No. 155, 1897.—Petition of Kipa te Whatanui.]

No. 155, 1897.—Petition of Kipa te Whatanui.

Petitioner prays for a rehearing in connection with the Horowhenua Block, in order that the descendants of Te Whatanui may obtain their rights therein.

I am directed to report that the Committee finds that the petitioner's case was exhaustively gone into by the Native Affairs Committee in 1892 and 1894, and also by a Committee of the Legislative Council in 1896, all the resulting recommendations being strongly in favour of the petitioner's claims; and the Committee, having again heard the petitioner in reference to his application, now recommends his case to the urgent and favourable consideration of the Government.
