Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1896.

No. 259.—Petition of Mary Barnett

No. 259.—Petition of Mary Barnett.

Petitioner alleges that the late Nirai Taratoa, who had an interest of about a hundred acres in the Himatangi Block, Manawatu district, left the same to her by will, but owing to certain restrictions in the Crown grant the will cannot be recognised, and she is therefore debarred from getting possession of the land. She prays that legislation may be passed to vary the restrictions in order that the will may take effect.

I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration.

8th October, 1896.
