Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1896.

[Nos. 248 and 249.—Petitions of Hoani te Rangikangaiho and Others.]

Nos. 248 and 249.—Petitions of Hoani te Rangikangaiho and Others.

Petitioners pray for inquiry and redress in regard to Matawhero and Wharemata portions of the Hapuku Block, which they allege are wrongfully in the hands of Europeans.

I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that these petitions be referred to the Government, and that the petitioners, as suggested by the Chief Surveyor at Napier, should be invited to go over the ground with a Government officer for the purpose of pointing out their claims.

17th September, 1896.
