Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1896.

[No. 32.—Petition of Tuta Nuku Tame and Others.]

No. 32.—Petition of Tuta Nuku Tame and Others.

Petitioners state that they are the rightful owners of the Purangi Block, near Waitara, and that they understand the Government is about to take the same for a township. They pray that this may be prevented, as they wish to retain it for their own use.

I am directed to report that, as there seems to be some misunderstanding with regard to the land in question, the Committee recommend that the petition be referred to the Government for inquiry.

E ki ana nga kai-pitihana ko ratou nga tangata tika nona a Purangi Poraka, e tata ana ki Waitara, a kua rongo ratou ka tangohia taua wahi e te Kawanatanga hei tuunga taone. E inoi ana ratou kia kaua taua mahi e whakaaetia, i te mea e hiahia ana ratou ki te pupuri taua wahi hei kainga mo ratou.
