No. 173.—Petition of Mereana Peka and 94 Others.
Petitioners allege that the six persons whose names appear in the title to land near Morrinsville, called Te Au-o-Waikato (8,621 acres), merely hold the same as trustees, and not as owners as is now claimed by them. The petitioners pray that legislation may be passed declaring them (the petitioners) also to be owners in the block.
I am directed to report that, as the Committee are advised that the Government is taking steps to have this matter adjusted, they have no recommendation to make.
