Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1894.

[No. 756.—Petition of Hairama Haweti and 79 Others.]

No. 756.—Petition of Hairama Haweti and 79 Others.

Petitioners pray for a further rehearing of the Tunapahore Block, Opotiki, as they allege the land has been awarded wrongfully.

page 16

I am directed to report that the petition calls for inquiry, and the Committee has not time to consider the case; they therefore recommend that the whole facts stated in the petition be inquired into by the Government. If the Government finds that the facts are proved, or that it is desirable there should be another investigation, then steps should be taken to grant the petitioner's request. The Committee further recommends in the meantime that the Government should not allow the land to be alienated in any way.
