Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1893.

No. 161.—Petition of Tenetahi

No. 161.—Petition of Tenetahi.

Petitioner complains that the Government has taken his land in the Little Barrier Island without giving him proper compensation. He prays for relief.

I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion it is desirable, in the interests of the colony, that the Government should endeavour to acquire Tenetahi's interest in the Little Barrier Island. That, failing his agreeing to accept a reasonable price for the same, facilities should be afforded by the Government for the petitioner obtaining a partition order from the Native Land Court.

8th August, 1893.
