No. 254.—Petition of Te Korowhiti Tuataka (Mrs. Douglas).

Petitioner complains of injustice done her in connection with the Waiharakeke and Okauia Block, and prays for compensation.

I have the honour to report,—
1. That in the opinion of this Committee an injustice has been done to Te Korowhiti Tuataka (Mrs. Douglas), and that through the action of the Native Land Court.
2. That as the land to which she was entitled has been sold, the only way in which justice can be done to the petitioner is by the Government granting her land.
3. That the Government should ascertain through its officers the probable value of the land of which she has been deprived, with a view of determining the compensation necessary.
