Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1893.

[No. 288, 1892.—Petition of Makere Tawhai and 4 Others.]

No. 288, 1892.—Petition of Makere Tawhai and 4 Others.

Petitioners allege that the Government has taken possession of a portion of the Tukituki Block, which they claim to be theirs through non-payment by the original purchaser. They pray for restitution or compensation.

I have the honour to report that the Committee are of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government, with the recommendation that the Resident Magistrate of the district should be appointed to inquire into the case, with a view of setting the matter at rest.

[Translation.]
No. 288, 1892.—Pukapuka inoi a Makere Tawhai me etahi atu tokowha.
