Petitioners pray that rehearings may take place relative to the several blocks of land to which their petitions refer.

I am directed to report aa follows: That the above-mentioned petitions for rehearing have been referred to your Committee; but time will not permit of their being considered this session. The page 32inquiry into petitions of this character necessarily occupies considerable time, and requires evidence not easily obtainable by a Committee sitting in Wellingtion. The Committee is of opinion that the Whole of these petitions should be referred to the Government with a recommendation that inquiry should be made into each case, with the view of next session having some tribunal appointed to deal with such cases as the Government finds, on inqury deserve consideration.
