No. 305.—Petition of Wi Pere.
Petitioner prays that a block of land called Te Kohe, situated at Gisborne, may be restored to him, as he was deprived of it through the misrepresentations of Messrs. Atkinson and Wylie. He states that both Sir Donald McLean and Mr. Sheehan promised that the land should be returned to him.
I am directed to report as follows: That Government be recommended to take necessary steps to carry out the report of Mr. Commissioner Clarke upon this subject, or, if this be found impossible without a breach of faith with the inhabitants of the district, to make equitable arrangements with Mr. Wi Pere in some other way.
