Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1877.

[Report on the Native Lands Acts Amendment Bill]

Report on the Native Lands Acts Amendment Bill.

Your Committee have the honor to report that, after taking evidence, they have arrived at the conclusion that the existing state of the law in reference to the leasing of Native lands is unsatisfactory; but that it is very uncertain whether the remedy proposed by the present Bill would improve it, while on the contrary it might be productive of injustice to individuals.

The Committee are of opinion that the whole question of the management of Native Lands should be dealt with by the Assembly in a comprehensive manner, and in the meantime recommend the withdrawal of the Bill.

John Bryce,
Chairman.

26th October, 1877.
