Foreword

Foreword

It is with great pleasure that we are able to present a further issue of the Historical Society Journal. Our grateful thanks go to our Editor, Dr. C. R. Barnicoat, who continues to do the painstaking task of preparing and presenting all the articles for publication.

The new Nelson Provincial Museum at Isel is now an accomplished fact and we Jook forward to the time when the large collection of material in the Archives Section will be available to students and research workers. It will be remembered that the Nelson Historical Society took the initiative in getting the Museum established and reference will be made to this fact in the next issue.

We regret to announce the death of an able authority on the history of the Marlborough area, the late Allen Hale. There is no doubt but that much valuable information would have been lost had it not been for his enthusiasm for local history and his perseverance in searching out the details. We honour his memory.

J. N. W. Newport,
President,

Nelson Historical Society.
