The Letters of Katherine Mansfield: Volume II

April 1920

I've just got your note about Ie ne parle pas. No, I certainly won't agree to those excisions if there were 500,000,000 copies in existence. They can keep their old 40 and be hanged to them. Shall I pick the eyes out of a story for 40. I am furious with S. No, I'll never agree. I'll supply another story but that is all. The outline would be all blurred. It must have those sharp lines. The Times didn't object. As to The Wind Blows, I put that in because so many people had admired it (Yes, it's Autumn II., but a little different) and queer people spoke so strongly about it I felt I must put it in. But this had better be held over till I get back. I'll never consent. I'll take the book away first. Don't worry about it. Just tell S. he's a fool. As to The Little Governess it was on my list and I asked you to include it!! (Caught out!) But don't you worry. It will have to wait. Of course I won't consent!
