Illustrated Guide to Christchurch and Neighbourhood

Rountree & Co

Rountree & Co.

Messrs Rountree and Co., grain and produce merchants, have their store and siding at Papanui, adjoining the railway station, and their offices in Cashel street, Christchurch. We may state that they have been compelled to enlarge their already spacious store owing to their increasing business; even as it is, they have found the store still insufficient to accommodate the immense quantities of grain and produce that are poured into it during the season.

Being situated in the midst of the largest potato growing district, it bids fair to become the most popular store in the northern district of Canterbury. On their siding, which connects with the main line, they have a 12-ton weighbridge, by Fairbank, thereby checking all goods in and out. During last season over 60,000 sacks of potatoes passed, over their siding for shipment. The offices, as stated, are in Christchurch, and are connected by page 221private wire with their stores, as well as with the Telephone Exchange.

They also act as farmers' agents, and do a large commission business in that capacity; also, undertaking the sale of live and dead stock both by auction and privately, and act as valuators, in which they have had twenty-three years' experience.
