Illustrated Guide to Christchurch and Neighbourhood

Messrs. Boon & Stevens' Carriage Factory

Messrs. Boon & Stevens' Carriage Factory.

This factory, which has been established over twelve years, occupies half an acre of ground facing Lower High-street, Christchurch, opposite Messrs. S. Manning & Co's. brewery. Both members of the firm learnt their trade in London, and one of them had worked for some time for a Christchurch house before commencing business here. Their buildings, which are 160 feet long, consist of a show room, fronting the street, in which we noticed, among other vehicles, a remarkably well-finished hansome cab of a new pattern. In the rear of the show room is the paint and varnishing shop, and behind that again the wood, machine and smith's shops, all well fitted with the various machinery requisite for carrying on the trade, the motive power being obtained from a Riches & Watt 4 h.p. engine. The firm make general carriage and tramcar work.
