Friday, May 1.
There was no business transacted at the Court to-day, the Chief Judge adjourning it until Monday, immediately after taking his seat. There is every probability of the proceedings being brought to a close on that day. His Honor will deliver his decision on the order of reference submitted by the Hon. Mr. John Hall on behalf of the Government in the claim of the Natives to the land lying between Lake Ellesmere and the sea. By making it an order of reference, the Government leave it to the Court to say what quantity of land should be given to the Natives under the Ngaitahu Deed, in addition to what has already been reserved for them.
