A Compendium of Official Documents Relative to Native Affairs in the South Island. Volume Two.

No. 6. — W. Rolleston, Esq., to the Rev. J. W. Stack

No. 6.
W. Rolleston, Esq., to the Rev. J. W. Stack.

Native Secretary's Office, Wellington, August 14th, 1865.

Sir,—

I am directed by the Honorable the Colonial Secretary to inform you that the sum of £200, applied for by you in your letter of 27th March, for the Kaiapoi School, will be granted; but no promise can for the present be given of an annual grant, as "The Native Schools Act" has ceased to be in operation, and no appropriation has yet been made for the future maintenance of Maori schools.

There seems, however, no reason to doubt that provision will be made for this purpose by the Legislature.

I have, &c.,

W. Rolleston,
Under secretary.

The Rev. J. W. Stack, Kaiapoi.
