Sir,—

I have the honour, by direction of Mr. Fox, to acknowledge the receipt of your letters, No. 542, January 18th, 1870, No. 545, January 18th, 1870, reporting the dismissal of Mr. Wardrop from the office of teacher to the Native school at Riverton, and recommending Mr. Ireland as his successor, on terms similar to those upon which Mr. Wardrop was engaged, viz, at the rate of 15s. per quarter for every average pupil, payable by the Government, and 5s. per quarter for every pupil attending, payable by the parents.

In reply, I am to state that your recommendation is approved, and to request you to inform Mr. Cameron that the Government has no occasion for his services.
