A Compendium of Official Documents Relative to Native Affairs in the South Island. Volume Two.

No. 12. — Mr. John Macfarlane, to Alexander Mackay, Esq., Native Commissioner

No. 12.
Mr. John Macfarlane, to Alexander Mackay, Esq., Native Commissioner.

Temuka, July 18th, 1868.

Sir,

The Chairman of the School Committee here has handed me your letter of 12th June, requesting me to state, in reply, that the School Committee should have no objection to my teaching the Native and half-caste children at their own places after my ordinary school hours.

I could manage to give three hours each evening, say from five to eight, for five days per week, and, should this meet with your approval, I should be glad to commence my duties whenever you think fit, and shall perform the same to the best of my ability.

I have, &c.,

John Macfarlane.

Alexander Mackay, Esq., Native Commissioner, Canterbury.
