7 Aug. 19, 1865 Bishop of Christchurch Native Under Secretary Enclosing copies of two letters, one of the 12th November, 1863, addressed to the Governor, respecting assistance in furnishing the school buildings at Kaiapoi, and the other of 23rd October, 1861, applying for an additional grant of £200, in addition to the contribution of a like amount in 1860, to be appropriated in the erection of the school buildings.
8 Sept. 20, 1866 Mr. Tancred Hon. Native Minister Giving details of the Native school at Kaiapoi, both as to the buildings as well as to the operations of the school itself, and that the Provincial Government of Canterbury would give £50 that year to supplement the grant of the General Government in aid of the school.

10 Nov. 22, 1867 Extract from Letter from Hon. J. C. Richmond Mr. Alexander Mackay Enclosing twenty copies of "The Native Schools Act, 1867," and indicating the arrangements that should be come to with the managers of local schools in the neighbourhood of any Maori settlement relative to the admission of Native children to these schools.
11 June 12, 1868 Mr. Alexander Mackay Chairman Local Board of Education, Temuka, Canterbury Asking whether there would be any objection on the part of the master at Temuka to teach the Native children at their own place after his ordinary school duties were over.
12 July 18, 1868 Mr. John Macfarlane Mr. Alexander Mackay Intimating that there would be no objection to the master of Local School, Temuks, teaching the Native children at their own place after ordinary school hours.
13 June 11, 1868 Mr. Alexander Mackay Chairman Local Board of Education, Waimatemate Stating that Government objected to pay a regular salary, as required by the master of the Local School at Waimate, for teaching the Native children at their own chapel, but that it would be willing to contribute at the rate of £3 for every scholar attending regularly, in addition to the £1 to be paid by the parents.

21 Feb. 8, 1868 Native Under Secretary Enclosing copy of letter from Mr. Hislop, Secretary Education Board of Otago, expressing his earnest desire to promote the views of the General Government for the admission of Native children to the local schools of the Province, with comments thereon; treating also of the difficulty in bringing school education within the reach of most of the Native settlements in Southland, and suggesting plans for overcoming same.
