Mt. Arthur - Another Easter Rave

Mt. Arthur - Another Easter Rave

It was 11 a.m. on Easter Monday and we had made an early start so that we would have time to climb Mt. Arthur. But now that we had reached Flora Hut the excuses were coming thick and fast. "Sick" said one."Blisters" another claimed. "I need sleep" said a third. I was feeling pretty lazy too but Janet was eager to go. I looked around for an excuse but they had all been taken. So, a long thirty minutes later five people, including me set off towards Mt. Arthur.

The Mt. Arthur "dog-box" turned out to be a well kept hut with a fantastic view over the surrounding countryside. It would be a pleasant place to stay. The day was fine and warm - again - and the view magnificent.

When we were about half-way up the others claimed to be able to see Mt. Egmont (We did!! — typist) in the distance. I could see what appeared to be a cloud in about the right place so I agreed with them. A short while later we spent a few minutes talking to some people in the distance, whom we thought may have been Bill Foster's Party. However we could understand very little of what they were saying and apparently they could not understand us at all, so their identity remained a mystery, for the time being anyway.

At four O'clock we were standing on Mt. Arthur having a celebration round of acid drops. Two people were taking photographs and Janet was trying to make a borrowed camera work. Technical things these cameras!

Then there was a race to get back to Flora Hut before dark, for in true club style no-one had brought a torch.

We spent a few minutes at Mt. Arthur Hut talking to Wharry, Jude and Bryan who turned out to be the mysterious party we had seen earlier, and then it was back to Flora to find that no dinner was ready for us and all the seats by the fire had been taken.

Those who went tripping to Mt. Arthur were Janet, Mike, Dave, Dirk and me.

Those who stayed behind don't get their names in print in this article.
