Typo: A Monthly Newspaper and Literary Review, Volume 5

[miscellaneous paragraphs]

؟What's in a name? (asks the Kumara Times). A good deal when you can twist it into a hundred different shapes. Here is a fair sample of the different tunes played upon the name of Cymaro as performed on the racecourse on Saturday. One man properly called out Cymaro, another Simmerer, a third Cimmarro, a fourth, more happily still, Kumara, a fifth improved on this with St. Maur, probably thinking of the chief actor in Jim the Penman. Poor Cymaro! No wonder he lost the race. —And a contemporary comments: « And yet the correct pronunciation is not given. Cymaro means Welshman, and is pronounced Kumro. » —And there are still people opposed to phonetic spelling!
