[miscellaneous paragraphs]

Professor Kirchoff notes with anxiety that a decrease of latitude has taken place, implying an alteration in the direction of the earth's axis. It is probably to be accounted for by the late political changes in New Zealand—changes so vast as to have to a measurable extent deranged the terrestrial Ballance.

Typo will not look up the acute e nor travel again to the italic-case for « employé. » We use the word as little as possible, for we dislike it; but in future when used it will be treated as English, and brought into conformity with « trustee, » and the whole of the large family of words of that class.—We have also cast out the redundant French « me » from « program, » which henceforth takes its place in our pages as an English word.—Also, after full consideration, we have dropped the « u » from « fount » in relation to type. We have hitherto, according, to current English usage, made the word conform to « founder » and « foundry; » but the shorter form is of equally good authority, and is, we think, preferable, as approaching more nearly to the Latin fons et origo of the word.
