The great printers' strike in Germany has collapsed. So says a home telegram.

A circular from the Religious Tract Society notifies us that in consequence of the almost sudden death of Mr H. G. Pim, who was appointed cashier and publisher on the retirement of Mr Tarn in 1890, Mr F. G. Sargent has been appointed cashier and Mr Richard Bradshaw publisher.

On 12th December, at Akaroa, Mr F. K. J. Cooper was married to Miss Teresa Cullen. Mr Cooper has gained some repute as an artist, and his sketches of South Island scenery have been reproduced in English and Australian illustrated papers. He is a member of the Alpine Club, and an honorary member of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science. The bride was organist in one of the local churches, and a Sunday-school teacher. Mr and Mrs Cooper have the best wishes of the Craft for their future happiness.

The Wanganui Chronicle, 12th December, says:—Mr Herbert Brandon, son of Mr R. Brandon, of this town, has successfully passed an examination in shorthand by Mr Isaac Pitman, and has been admitted a member of the Phonetic Society. We may mention that this year five young ladies, pupils in Mr W. N. Warren's class at the Girls' High School, Wellington, have also passed a like examination, and have been admitted to the Phonetic Society, and of eight pupils (who have all passed) two ladies take second and third places respectively in the order of classification by Mr Pitman, and we are credibly informed that these ladies can write from 80 to 100 words a minute easily, and will very shortly go up for examination and certificate for 120 words a minute. Young gentlemen, look to your laurels!
