We are sorry to record that the Gisborne Standard, a well-conducted and apparently healthy paper, has ceased publication.

A printing-press and type have been taken from Paeroa by the natives to the Maori « Parliament » in the Waikato country. They say that they intend to publish a Maori « Hansard. »

Rudyard Kipling has paid New Zealand a brief visit, and like most visitors, has felt the spell of our country and climate. Though he is travelling for his health, it is quite untrue, as reported by some American papers, that de is « dying of consumption. »

According to the Oamaru Mail, Mr W. F. Kitchen, who formerly edited Zealandia and afterwards the Globe—both literary muddles and financial failures—has been engaged by the Victorian trades unions to edit a joint-stock company labor organ with a capital of £100,000. The Pore Workin' Man across the water must be pretty well off, after all, if he can raise a sum like this at short notice.
