Our Exchanges.

With its issue for 2nd January, the weekly Journal für Buchdruckerkunst begins its 57th year. It is, we believe, the oldest, as it is one of the best of printers' trade journals.

The Inland Printer is publishing competition jobs in rule-work. A clever study of a hand holding a pack of cards, by an Iowa printer, appears in its January number.

The American Art Printer for November-December is as bright as ever. Among the original articles is one, with numerous illustrations, on the formation of bands, ribbons, and streamers from brass rule.

Paper and Press for January contains a good portrait and biography of M.Blowitz, the celebrated Paris correspondent of The Times. A colored portrait of the same man appeared lately in Vanity Fair, and—marvellous to relate—was not a caricature.

The Printing Times for January contains the index to vol. xv (new series.) It is a pretty exhaustive one, occupying twenty-one columns of brevier. To compile such an index involves much labor; but the value of trade paper is fully doubled when it is done. The fine old-fashioned headpiece at the head of the index is worthy of study as a piece of book-decoration. As showing the increasing interest taken in the colonies, it is worthy of note that « New Zealand » is the subject of fifty-nine references (some cross-references, of course) in this index.
