Poster Guidance For Holidays

Poster Guidance For Holidays.

Have you ever made a study of posters? As the holiday season approaches, the various resorts are sublimated in colour on the walls of railway stations—and how they glow, these kaleidoscopic pieces, looking down on the platforms of a terminal, or from the dimness of a wayside waiting shed.

I hold no brief for hoardings which disfigure scenic beauties, but the poster is one of the gay spots of life. I would like to develop the poster theme, but that must wait. Sufficient to mention the tonic effect of a scene in blue and gold—blue sea, gold sands, dotted with blobs of colour that in the waves mean bathing helmets and on the shore happy loungers; at the edge of the surf posturing figures and in the foreground a sun-bronzed group which we would love to join. And in New Zealand it is so simple to step into such a scene. Even for inland dwellers, week-end and Sunday excursions by rail bring the sea close. What a slogan—“The Railways bring the sea to your door!”
