Wellington's New Station

Wellington's New Station.

(Continued from page 53.)

There are two wagon weighbridges in the goods yard. In a central position are the shunters' rooms, and above these is the yard foreman's office in a tower overlooking the whole yard. The passenger, goods and locomotive yards are floodlighted by high-power lights on steel towers Provision is made for private siding access to warehouse sites available on the new Waterfront Road.

The station is approached by a double line from the Auckland-New Plymouth-Napier route and a double line from the Wairarapa route, converging at the “distant junction” to an “up” and “down” passenger line to the “grand crossing” at Davis Street and a goods line again diverging to a goods-arrival, goods-departure and shunting road within the goods yard. Land is available for further extensions of the marshalling yards, and the layout has been planned to fit in with such extensions whenever they may become necessary.
