The top illustration depicts the development of the Hawke's Bay Motor Company's Fleet from the days of the stage each to the modern vehicles which are now run in conjunction with the Railway Department's services. In this centere is shwewn the departure from Auckland (on Christmas Eve, 1873) of the first train to run on the Auckland-Waikato railway, and below, New Zealand's crack train, the “Limited Express,” at the end of its 426 mile run from Auckland to Wellington.
