For the Children.
The Story Of Sniff.

Series One

1
This is Sniff, the sinner,
Waiting for his dinner.

2
Not getting it, he growls,
And sings and barks and howls.

3
Till Pater says “Sniff you must beg”-
At which he stands on one hind leg.

4
“Good dog,” says Pater, “Here's a bone”-
Two seconds more and Sniff is gone.

5
Upon the mat he cranches small
Until there is no bone at all.

6
And then he goes to sleep you see
And dreams fair dreams like you or me.

7
Of what does he dream, the sinner?-
Of what he'd like, of course, for dinner-
Of far more big bones, you may bet,
Than he will ever, ever get.
