Letters from Early New Zealand
[Letter from Arthur]
My Dear Grandmamma.
The Maoris have got very dirty faces. The Captain (Parsons) sent a box of grapes to the dear little messmate, and father and mother, from Nelson. In the Meander, a man-of-war, I saw a band playing. I'm very obliged for all the little things that you gave me. Grandmamma is very nice. (You must write that down, because she's never heard that she's very nice.) The Maoris wear blankets, very dirty blankets.
Arthur.
