Intimations of Imortality

Throw away your clocks he cried
Tear up your calendars, your diaries
Be ruled no more by time.
Place your foot on the minute hand
And mock its puny struggles
Becoming more like man.
Ignore the separation of eternity
Into feeble hours and days.
Tear down time from its pedestal
And in its place erect man.
