Mr. Arthur Clifton is a member of the Westland County Council for Kanieri riding. He was born in the year 1858 in Warwickshire, England, where, after leaving school, he followed farming work for some time, and was afterwards employed at lime-burning and quarrying. He subsequently came to New Zealand, and was farming at Ashburton, Canterbury, for about one year and six months. Mr. Clifton then removed to the West Coast, where, till the outbreak of the Rimu “rush,” he was employed at various occupations. Since page 492 that time he has been mining. He is a member of the Westland Licensing Committee, and of the Westland Hospital Board.
