held by Mr Baird, who runs about 12,000 Merino sheep on it. Mr Baird was born at Naseby, Otago, in 1874, and educated at the Otago Boys' High School. Two years were spent in a sharebroker's office, and then Mr Baird started work on the Coronet Peak station, and in 1900 he took over “Bendemeer” and the station. Mr Baird is on the Arrow Hospital Trust, and the Frankton Cemetery Trust, and is a churchwarden in the Arrow Anglican church. He is a steward of the Arrow and Frankton Jockey Clubs, and a vice-president of the latter. For some time he was first lieutenant and acting-captain of the Wakatipu Mounted Rifles. He is a vice-president of the recently-inaugurated Lake County Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Mr Baird keeps a few racehorses, and is also successful in the coursing field. In 1900, he married a daughter of Dr. Douglas, of Queenstown, and has one son and two daughters.
