The Cyclopedia of New Zealand [Otago & Southland Provincial Districts]

Hilderthorpe

Hilderthorpe is nine miles from Oamaru, on the main north line of railway, and the flag station stands ninety-nine feet above the level of the sea. It is a dairy and agricultural district, and the farmers send their milk to the Pukeuri creamery. There is a post office and telephone bureau at the residence of the local blacksmith. Hilderthorpe is in the Papakaio riding of the Waitaki county, and had a population of ninety-seven at the census of 1901. The children of the settlers attend the school at Pukeuri.
