Forrester, John M. , Architeet, Tyne Street, Oamaru. P.O. Box, 59. Private residence, Wharfo Street. This business was founded about 1872 by Mr. Thomas Forrester (father of Mr. J. M. Forrester) and Mr John Lemon, under the style of Forrester and Lemon, and was taken over by its present owner in 1890. A large number of important buildings were designed and erected under

page 532 the supervision of the original firm, such as St. Paul's Presbyferian Church, the Oamaru Post Office, the Courthouse, the Waitaki Boys' High School, the Union Bank of Australia, the Queen's Hotel in Thames Street, the Oamaru Freezing Works, and the County Council Chambers and Hospital at Waimate, Since Mr. J. M. Forrester succeeded to the business he has completed plans for and erected the Anglican parsonage at Kurow, St. Luke's Sunday school in Oamaru, the Presbyterian churches at Kurow and Papakaio, various additions to the Oamaru Woollen Factory, Girls' High School, the tower of the Post Office, and a terrace of houses to the order of Mr. J. Bullied, besides a considerable number of private residences in the North Otago district. Mr. Forrester is the only son of Mr. Thomas Forrester, After serving his time at the building trade, he gained his architectural experience with his father's firm during the years 1881 to 1890. He has long been connected with the volunteer movement, and holds office as captain of the Queen's Rifles.
