page 450 Glen Urquhart, Inverness-shire, Scotland, in 1837. His earlier experiences were gained on a farm, and subsequently he became a carpenter. In the year 1858 he came out to Victoria, and five years later he crossed the Tasman Sea and settled in Otago. For several years he was engaged in North Taieri, and afterwards at Goodwood, and was subsequently in business in Palmerston South, as a carpenter, builder and timber merchant Mr. McDonald settled in Green Valley in 1879, and has acquired a property of 312 acres of freehold land, and 1000 acres of leasehold. For some time he served on the local school committee. Mr. McDonald was married, in 1865, to a daughter of Mr. James McGrowther, of Tokomairiro, and has five sons and one daughter.
